Latest World Triathlon National Federation Survey Report complete

The 2019 NF Survey Report has been completed, with the results giving the latest annual overview of the global health of the sport of triathlon. It is the third such report to have been produced since the surveys began in 2017, created to give precious insight into the landscape of the sport and pinpoint where resources can be most effectively allocated across all five World Triathlon continents.

“Thank you to all our members who took the time to complete the survey before this year’s deadline and I hope we can help those who were unable to take part to do so in 2021,” said World Triathlon President Marisol Casado. “These are exciting times for triathlon, and the latest NF Survey Report provides another strong indicator of exactly where and how we must focus our programs to the benefit of the entire World Triathlon family.”

2019 NF ReportEleven National Federations submitted their surveys for the first time; Algeria; American Samoa; Andorra; Democratic Republic of Congo; Oman; Iraq; Palau; Sierra Leone; Gambia; Uganda; Tanzania. Their participation helped the total number of respondents rise from 83% to 89%. In 2017’s inaugural survey, that figure was 68%. The results of the previous years’ surveys are also available online for 2017 and 2018.

Being conducted in three languages – English, French and Spanish – and using a new online Survey Gizmo tool, helped the 2019 survey responses hit close to 90%. The introduction of new Sustainability and Safeguarding KPIs helped provide an even better picture of National Federations’ status on crucial factors in their development.

The survey specifically aims to paint a comprehensive picture about the development, background and infrastructure of member federations in eight key areas: Administration, Management & Governance; Gender Equity; Anti-Doping; Development; Athletes; Coaches; Technical Officials & Events; Marketing, Media, Communication and you can find the full report at:

The 2020 survey will be conducted in the new year, from mid-February to the end of March. Despite the significant hit of the Covid-19 pandemic on this year’s activities around the world, the survey is still expected to provide precious insights and specific challenges and successes to have emerged during the hugely impacted season.
