2013 Memorable Moments: Alistair Brownlee can climb
There’s no question about it. Alistair Brownlee is one beast of a triathlete. As if his xx World Triathlon Series titles, Olympic gold medal and two world championship titles weren’t enough, he reminded us yet again of why he’s one of the most legendary athletes to hit the sport at the world’s toughest triathlon in Kitzbuehel.
A true all-round triathlete, Alistair left the water and headed for Kitzhorn Mountain in the lead pack. With the likes of Javier Gomez in tow, it was a typical enough start to the men’s race. But that all went south with the roads pointed north.
It didn’t take long for Alistair to climb out of his seat and lay his signature smack down on the competition. Just minutes into the 11.5-km climb, it was clear there would be no catching the Brit as he made the triathlon look like a cycling time trial.

He reached the second transition a whopping kilometre ahead of the competition, solidifying his position as one of the top athletes on the men’s circuit. Needless to say, Alistair went on to destroy the remaining 2.5km run to win the race and his 14th WTS title.
Loved racing in Kitzbuhel yesterday. What a great course. Hope it made good viewing and well done to everyone who made it up.
