Monday morning will see the final day of Santa Eulalia action at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships Ibiza, with the Aquathlon events taking over the town before attentions turn to the cross duathlon and cross triathlon action in San Antonio from Wednesday.

Over 120 men and women will line up in the elite races, with U23, Junior, Para and Age Group bringing another busy schedule to the island’s beautiful east coast. It’s a 1km swim to get things underway, transitioning to a 5km run up the harbour and beyond the previous day’s duathlon turn point, making for some enticing all-in racing.

Hungary’s Zsanett Bragmayer came to Ibiza hoping for a medal, but didn’t necessarily expect it to come in Saturday’s sprint duathlon. As it happened, a brilliant silver that didn’t even utilise her strongest swim discipline could pave the way for another podium here, and she will want to push the pace as hard as possible in the water in anticipation of the fast runners in the field after the perfect loosener 48 hours before.

Those runners include the likes of Germany’s Celine Kaiser and the powerful Sara Perez Sala eager to give the Spanish crowds plenty to cheer.

Another excellent Hungarian swimmer Marta Kropko will also surely be among the first heading back to shore, Italy’s 2022 national aquathlon champion Nicoletta Santonocito also looking for a strong start to build on.

U23 bronze medallist last year in Samorin Silke De Wolde steps up to the elite level, Irish Champion and the Fyn 2018 silver medallist at U23 level Chloe Pollard will also be one to watch along with Romania’s Antoanela Manac.

Men’s preview

Runner-up in 2022, Spain’s Kevin Tarek Viñuela Gonzalez can expect a massive boost from the crowds on Monday, the 2019 World Beach Games Champion among those hoping to capitalise on the absence of the winner in Samorin, reigning champion Mark Devay.

Gergo Dobi could be Hungary’s best medal hope, while Christopher Perham leads a large British delegation chasing the medals and the sunshine in Ibiza.

Morocco’s Badr Siwane will be looking to build on his Arena Games Triathlon Series debut in London a month ago, and Germany’s Jannik Schaufler could be a threat.

The 2021 European Champion Arnaud De Lustrac will feel he is ready to take the biggest prize this time around, while the major Czech threat comes from Simon Koblízek.
