Beijing coutdown begins....
A day ahead of the two-year countdown to Beijing 2008, the Organising Committee for the Beijing Games (BOCOGb) has launched the pictograms that will identify each of the sports on the Olympic programme in two years time including triathlon. The images, which have been approved by the 28 summer International Federations and by the IOC, will be widely used during the Games, as they appear on signage, adverts, souvenirs, official publications, TV images and many other forms of visual communication.
Beauty Of Seal Characters
Called the beauty of seal characters and with strokes of seal characters as their basic form, the Beijing 2008 pictograms combine the charm of inscriptions on bone and bronze objects from ancient China with the simplified embodiment of modern graphics. Using the effect of sharp contrast between black and white colours, which are typical of the traditional Chinese art of rubbings, the pictograms display distinct motion, the graceful aesthetic perception of movement and rich cultural connotations, thus arriving at the harmony and unity of form with conception.
Icons
There are 35 different icons, which cover triathlon and all of the other 27 Olympic summer sports. The icons represent athletics, rowing, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, canoe / kayak flatwater, canoe / kayak slalom, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, weightlifting, handball, hockey, judo, wrestling, swimming, synchronised swimming, diving, water polo, modern pentathlon, softball, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, shooting, archery , sailing, volleyball and beach volleyball.
