BG Triathlon PATCO Camp
Guatemala City, Guatemala with its excellent training facilities is playing host to the BG Triathlon Continental Development Camp of the Pan American Triathlon Confederation (PATCO) from November 5th through 14th. A group of 39 athletes between the ages of 15 and 19 years from 14 countries from the region are being put through their paces by a group of 12 coaches under the leadership of the head coach Prof Enrique Bollana from Argentina. He is joined by an elite high performance team of coaches and scientists from the Spanish Triathlon Federation who are conducting skill and performance tests on all the athletes as part of a talent identification initiative with London 2012 in mind.
This camp is one of five continental camps to be held annually which will target emerging and developing national triathlon federations. The twelve day camp will culminate with the participants competing in the Guatemala National Championships in Amatique Bay in Puerto Barrios about a 4 hour drive from Guatemala City.
Camps such as these provide a perfect opportunity for athletes and coaches to share experiences and learn from each other in environment conducive to training and overall athlete development. I have no doubt that among the athletes assembled here for the camp we have some stars in the making. We are extremely grateful to our new global partner, BG Group, for making sport development such a priority and allowing us to grow and develop our programmes around the world. The local organizing committee here in Guatemala has also done an excellent job in coordinating this camp, said ITU Sport Development Director, Libby Burrell, who is responsible for implementing ITUs sport development programme globally.
