Entries for the elite Paratriathlon in London on August 7, which is part of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London, are now open.

The event is the third World Championship Series Elite Paratriathlon held in London, but the first one since Paratriathlon was officially accepted into Paralympic Games for Rio 2016.

Paratriathletes will compete in a 750m open-water swim, a 20km closed road cycle leg, before a 5km closed circuit run that also takes in parts of the London 2012 Olympic triathlon course. The swim takes place in The Serpentine and the remainder of the course is all within London’s Hyde Park and takes place on wide closed roads, offering a safe, multi-lap environment that will lend itself to fast-paced and thrilling racing.  Plenty of fans and invited International Paralympic Committee representatives are expected to take in the spectacular action.

The event is fully inclusive and entries will be accepted across all six of the ITU paratriathlon classification categories.

Entry is free and will only be accepted through affiliated National Federations, so please contact your own National Federation by June 24 for further details on entry, accommodation and classification.

British Triathlon aims to showcase an equitable event, and the initial aim will be to have a field split equally between gender and classification.  Should this not be possible a first registered, first selected policy will operate.

This year is already shaping up as the biggest in Paratriathlon history so far, with the announcement just before the start of the new year that the International Paralympic Committee had accepted Paratriathlon in to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. More than 5000 fans had signed up to support the ITU’s ‘Paratriathlon for Paralympics’ bid.

Even before that announcement, Paratriathlon had achieved another goal with 27 countries, from all five continents, committing to compete in the 2011 ITU Paratriathlon World Championships in Beijing. That number will be the most in history to compete at a Paratriathlon world titles and each of those national federations has also committed to hold national championships from 2011 onwards.
