Welcome to Day 1 of the 2023 Multisport World Championships Ibiza! The White Island is set to welcome over 3.000 athletes from 61 countries, to crown the Duathlon, Long Distance Triathlon, Long Distance Aquabike, Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon and Cross Duathlon World Champions for Elite, U23, Juniors, Para triathlon and Age Groupers. Here is a summary of everything that you can expect today!

19.15h - After the Oath from the Coaches, the Technical Officials and the Athletes, World Triathlon President Marisol Casado declared the 2023 Ibiza World Triathlon Multisport Championship open.

18.50h - Some traditional dance moves in the crowded Santa Eulalia Square.

18.35h - Some traditions never get old. Team New Zealand performed a haka as they passed through the finish line inroute to the speeches in Santa Eulalia Square.

18.25h - Some athletes had a long journey to get to Ibiza, but for athletes like Nolu Khanyo, from South Africa, it was totally worth it. “It’s my first World Championships. I usually do triathlon out of Port Elizabeth, and I just did my first full IM, I think I am ready for this. Idid the provincial races, qualified for nationals, that worked out again so I thought - let me go! I’ve got nothing to lose everything to gain! I am a bit jetlagged but have checked out ibiza - everyone back home is super jealous!”.

18.12h - The Aussie delegation is one of the biggest ones in Ibiza this year. With the Multisport World Championships taking place next year in Townsville (Australia), quite a few athletes are more than ready to explain to their mates what awaits for them next year. Don’t worry. Crocs are not expected, neither in Ibiza nor in Townsville.

18.00h - Mario and Alejandro are leading today Team Argentina. They are both making their debut this Saturday, and some of them doubling up to race again on Sunday. Most of the Argentinians have already enjoyed the island for a few days before the races, and are now ready for the Parade and Opening Ceremony.

16.20h - Looks like Team Canada for Duathlon and Aquathlon is ready!

11.15h - Everything is ready for the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony today. Athletes and coaches are invited to participate on the Parade of Nations this evening, at 18h, at the Passeig S’Alamera in Santa Eulalia. Get your flags ready and enjoy the atmosphere. And remember to smile for the camera! A handful of the best World Triathlon photographers and videographers will be there!

10.05h - If you are racing on the Duathlon AG World Championships, remember to pick up your Age-Group race package in Ibiza Port from 11 to 17h, and you have to check-in your bikes in transition between 14.30 and 17.30 (this is mandatory!). You can also take a bit of time to visit the fan zone and Expo at the Ibiza Port, it’s open until 18h!

Friday, 28 April. 09.30h - First race in the calendar is the Sprint Duathlon AG World Championships, that will start on Saturday 29 at 8am sharp, and with the Male 16-29 years old to kick off a great day of racing. You can check the full set of start lists here. And all age group races will have a finish line camera watchable on TriathlonLive.tv, free access for everyone.
