Monaco – Representatives of the ITU are in Monaco attending the 21st Sportel conference in Monaco.

Sportel is recognised as the international sports business market for buyers and sellers of sports television, as well as being the premier location for international sports federations and groups to convene with peers in the sports business industry.

Last year alone, the event tallied over 2,000 participants from nearly 1,000 international sports business companies.

Meeting with representatives of organisations responsible for distribution, production and content delivery, the ITU Media team is continuing to build the ITU’s reputation as a leader among IFs in sports television.

Going by the numbers, in 2009 the ITU had contracts with 35 broadcasters in nearly 100 countries, and in the past year, have increased the number of broadcasters to over 50 worldwide in 150 countries.

Monday night in Monaco features Sportel’s Golden Podium Awards, where directors and producers of the world’s best sports images are awarded a Golden Podium Trophy.  Slow motion sequences are at the heart of the ceremony and screening, set to take place on Tuesday, October 10th and attended by HSH Prince Albert of Monaco.

ITU have entered two submissions to the Awards under the slow-motion sequence categories.
