Earlier in February, ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado met with Georg Hochegger, CEO of Star Production SARL, the organiser of the TriStar event series.  Hochegger was accompanied by his colleague Olivier Castelli and met with ITU at the President’s Office in Madrid.  Also participating in the meeting was Enrique Quesada, Senior Manager of Sport Results for ITU and Chair of ITU’s Technical Committee.

The purpose of the meeting was to acknowledge the distances in Star Production SARL’s TriStar series.  While no official agreements have been made yet, it was a positive first step in working together to grow the sport of triathlon for all parties including ITU’s affiliated National Federations.

Hochegger also expressed their intent to use ITU Long Distance regulations for their events.  Currently, the TriStar series uses a 1km swim, 100km bike and 10km run and also a 2km swim, 200km bike and 20km run.

Hochegger thanked Casado and the ITU for being open minded into developing the sport and pledged to work closely with the ITU.

Overall, the meeting with Star Production SARL was held in a positive mood for both parties, seeking a professional working relationship in the future with the unified goal to continue to develop triathlon.
