Kloiber and Le Duey are tops in Duathlon
The 2005 ITU Corner Brook Duathlon made an exhilarating prelude to the triathlon with some of the most exciting and entertaining Duathlon action that has ever been seen in North America.
The elite men are set a blistering pace with Anthony Le Duey of France setting a intense pace of 15 mins 28 seconds for the first 5km. He continued this pace leaving the field trailing in his wake clocking a time of 30 mins 10 seconds for the first 10km.
Belgium’s Benny Van Steelant worked hard on the bike to catch Le Duey and the pair came in off the bike together. However the Frenchman showed his power on the run again leaving Van Steelant behind to claim the top podium spot. Armand Van der Smissen of the Netherlands took the bronze medal.
In a depleted women’s field it was the two women from Great Britain that led throughout the race. Caroline Kloiber and Annie Emmerson lead the way with a strong run on this challenging hilly course.
Emmerson then pushed hard on the bike to try and wear down her only real opponent. However Kloiber was up to the challenge and ran hard off the bike to win comfortably. Emmerson was second and Ireland’s Anne Paul took third spot on the podium.
