News for Coaches
Exciting news for triathlon coaches from around the world! March - May, 2006. For the first time, Triathlon was included as one of the sports in the ICC (International Coaching Course) In Budapest, Hungary. The ICC is offered to coaches from countries that do not have formal coaching education programmes, and is part of the ICSE (Institute of Coaching and Sport Education) at Semmelweis University. Successful completion of the course earns coaches an ICC Coaches’ Diploma.
“The ICC is designed to train and educate coaches from around the World. The program attempts to promote and develop excellent in coaching. The Course provides coaches with a systematic way to improve their knowledge and skills in the theoretical, technical, and practical aspects of coaching.” (ICSE brochure)
Coaches enjoy integrated theory courses with coaches from a wide variety of sports in addition to sport specific technical and practical education. They work closely with athletes from Hungarian sport clubs while living in Budapest for the three months. The course is approximately equivalent to a Level 3-4 in countries with developed coaching programmes.
In 2007, the second annual Triathlon course will be offered at the ICC. Coaches are encouraged to apply from around the world. As soon as applications are made available, they will be posted on the ITU website. Coaches who aspire to work with Junior, U-23 and developing Elite athletes (National to International level) would benefit from this course. Funding for the course is acquired through Olympic Solidarity (scholarship applications).
Prerequisites for the ICC Course
- Working experience in the respective sport field;
- Recommendation from the National Olympic Committee, and Ministry of Sport or Sport Council and / or National Sport Federation;
- Sufficient knowledge of English language (reading, writing, speaking);
- Age limit: 20-45;
- Good health;
- Hungarian visa (to be paid by the participant);
- Valid return ticket.
The feedback from 2006 was very positive, with many compliments about the hospitality, generosity, and professionalism of the host university and staff. ITU Sport Development Staff are working to ensure this programme continues and grows into the future.
