ITU hereby reports that Australian triathlete Margo Mackintosh has been suspended from competition for committing an inadvertent anti-doping rule violation involving the presence of a prohibited substance.

Ms. Mackintosh has served a 12-week period of ineligibility after failing an in-competition doping control during the 2019 Duathlon ITU Multisport World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain in which she finished 1st in the 35-39 Age Group category.  Her urine sample returned an adverse analytical finding for Higenamine, classified under the Prohibited List as a Beta 2 Agonist.

The Athlete established that, unbeknownst to her at the time of use, her dietary supplement contained the Higenamine - although Higenamine was not listed on its label or ingredient list.

ITU therefore, once again, reminds all triathletes of the risks associated with taking supplements.

Ms. Mackintosh’ period of ineligibility began on May 27, 2019 the date of her sample collection.  The results she earned at the 2019 Multisport World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain have been disqualified, with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points and appearance money.  The Athlete is now free to resume competition.
