El evento mundial de triatlón en Londres se ha convertido en uno de los más emblemáticos a nivel global. Los atletas compiten en en el mismo circuito donde se coronaron Campeones Olímpicos y Mundiales, y además lo hacen en un lugar lleno de historia.

Este año, la diferencia entre Gwen Jorgensen, Non Stanford y Anne Haug era de tan solo 13 puntos, cualquiera de ellas podría ser Campeona Mundial ITU 2013. Finalmente, el título quedó para Stanford, quien lo obtuvo en una de las finales más dramáticas en la historia de nuestro deporte. Jorgensen se vio obligada a abandonar tras chocar en la etapa de ciclismo y Haug se retrasó en la de natación; Stanford quedó en la punta. A pesar de una penalización de 15 segundos, esta joven de 24 años se convirtió en la primera mujer en llegar al título mundial elite tras haber ganado el Sub23.

La situación fue típica: los tres pesos pesados del triatlón se enfrentaban en Londres en busca del título del Campeonato Mundial. Sin embargo, la carrera en sí fue completamente diferente a lo esperado. En un día lleno de giros, Javier Gomez demostró su nivel en la recta final y así se adjudicó su tercer Campeonato Mundial ITU. Jonathan Brownlee llegó para la plata.
