World Triathlon Podcast #89: Matt Hauser and WTCS Cagliari preview

Following his rapid-fire finish to seize the WTCS Yokohama silver a fortnight ago, where he was joined by compatriot Luke Willian on the podium, Australia’s Matthew Hauser joined the World Triathlon Podcast this week to help digest that hectic first Series race of 2024 and look ahead to a massive race in Cagliari this weekend.

“When you got 51 or 52 guys riding on high testosterone and ready to compete for Olympic spots for a lot of them, you know it’s always going to be aggressive racing,” Hauser says dialling in from Gold Coast having elected to miss Cagliari to be at home before decamping to Europe for the Paris build up. “I kind of worked my way forward through the pack into that like kind of top 10 wheels and yeah, I think it was like the 12th or 13th wheel that came unstuck in that crash.”

“So, you know, super fortunate just to be in front of that, but I certainly feel for the likes of Dorian Coninx, who I believe has to get surgery which is unfortunate for him, but, you know, these things heal quick and you’ve got a bit over two months to the Olympics, so I’m sure he’ll be right as rain.”

Add in the returns of Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde, the returning Olympic Champion Kristian Blummenfelt building up to defend his title and Morgan Pearson back to his best to name but four, the hype heading in to a massive WTCS Cagliari is building.
