National Federations elect Board & Committee Members
ITU member National Federations recently elected for Barry Siff of the United States to serve as member of the Executive Board. The election comes after Siff served as a pro tem Board member in 2015.
“Barry has been an invaluable member to the Executive Board in the last year in his pro tem capacity, and I have no doubt he will continue to be a significant contributing member to the Board in the coming year,” said ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado. “Barry comes to the Board with perspective as an athlete and race organizer, as well as strong understanding of a National Federation’s needs in a territory where triathlon is the largest in the world, which is very important.”
Siff has been involved in the multisport lifestyle for nearly 30 years. After retiring from ConAgra as a Senior VP, he turned his attention to triathlon as a race director of a popular event series serving more than 7,000 athletes. A certified coach and race director, Siff currently holds the position of USA Triathlon’s Board President.
Siff was elected at the 2015 ITU Congress and will serve in this position for one more year, at which time all 15 Executive Board seats will be up for re-election at the 2016 Congress. The four-year term lengths are in line with the summer Olympic quadrennial.
During the Congress, several additions to ITU Committees were also made. Antonio Alarco (PER), Alan Beckford (JAM) and Werner Taveirne (BEL) were elected to serve on the Audit Committee, while David Ferrier (AUS) will join the Constitution Committee and Brian Hinton (AUS) was re-elected to the Multisport Committee. Kathleen Smet (BEL) will now also serve on the Women’s Committee.
During this year’s Congress, it was announced that the 2016 Congress will take place in early December in Madrid.
